Ray and Kate Rose? Part 2
Fans have been brooding over RAY and KATE ROSE for over a month now. Seemingly losing any slight hint of faith they had that this movie could be pulled off successfully. New information has come about regarding the name changes of the characters. On the concept sketch for Rei Ayanami, the title stated RAY, however on closer inspection of the image it can be seen that it says “NERV – Rei Ayanami” on her arm. Suggesting the title was either in error, in reference to something else or as Tiffany Grant stated, “something merely to distinguish between pilot A and pilot B”. It states NERV, thus we can also stand confident in the present moment, that this will stay as NERV, for there is no cause to alter it. With regards to the future of the title name “Rei Ayanami” we cannot be sure, to quote T.Grant: “The cast will be international, and mostly of European descent. Meaning, for example, if Daniel Radcliffe (Anime Insider’s suggestion – NOT mine!) were to play the lead male role, it would be pretty stupid to call an ENGLISH boy Shinji.” Unless of course he was PART Japanese, *ahem*
Ray and Kate Rose?
Character name changes. Massive rumors are currently circulating as to whether Rei Ayanami has been christened “Ray” and similarly Asuka as “Kate Rose”. There is nothing concrete to suggest they have – as these names appearing on the images are very likely to be the names of the artists or costume designers who produced them. However, a few points to consider are; no other pictures have a similar name appearing on them, Rei and Ray maybe too similar to be a coincidence and why would an artist put only a first name down, especially if it’s a signature? On the other hand, on the image it does say “Kate Rose plugsuit” and “Ray plugsuit” however these maybe concepts drawn by another artist to simply incorporate and show a costume design by Kate Rose / Ray. “Kate rose plugsuit” would then be required to distinguish which plugsuit design is being viewed. Kate Rose is a costume designer (i.e. the images were not drawn by Kate/Ray but they are an interpretation of their current designs). Another rumor, but to much less extent, is the name of “New City” which is not called Tokyo 3 – suggesting another name change will be present. Rei production images show her without blue hair, much to the disgrace of many fans. Suggesting Rei will be dark haired within the movie although appearance will depend on the actress playing her.
Cast Predictions
All cast predictions are still rumors, including those made within Anime Insider magazine. No one has as of yet been cast. Currently a lot of rumors, predictions and what-not is flying around as to who could play who. These are all rumors, nothing concrete has of yet been announced, confirmed or even hinted at by the companies involved. In conclusion, it is highly likely that Mr Potter will NOT play Shinji – as casting at this stage in the movie’s production is utterly pointless.
Organic Units
The EVA’s will have a more organic look to them, their suits looking less metallic and having more a skin kind of rubber texture.

Umm i think you guysz should stick to the orignal names because people who have watched the evangelion series would get confused on who is who but they will prolly fig. it out so i think keep the names!

because it doesnt really matter maybe you can change that sinji’s mom was Japaneses and his father was like half japaneses and american
if their going to start changing names and how certian things look and work in NGE, its totally going to kill it. for some thing like evangelion it will “have to” look and extremly good as far as the cgi stuff but the characters will also have to look and “feel” like the characters. think about it; if they started changing names and stuff “story line”in movies like harryPotter, Narnia, lord of the rings the movies will totally suck. EVANGELION is one of those thing that most would agree is a classics like the “godfather” or “schindler’s list” or “saving private ryan”- THEY ARE WORKS OF ART!.
Now they might have a chance of pulling it off if they let the japanes get involve like ANNO(Cant believe that ANNO is going to let them butcher his work!) NOT changing INFO such as names places (tokyo-3 sound cooler than “NEW tokyo”) but i agree about the part to make the cast Multi ethnic- but try to keep more “asian” as for as shinji and rie. the cast will have to be VERY carefully Picked. and if they get the guys who did ADVENT CHILDREN (NOT Spirits within)to do there CGI work, with the same dramatic story line make it rated R or pg-13 and keep the psycholical intensity in taht it should do pretty well.

Yeah. It’s okay for them to change the names but that would be a very big challenge. The names would have to be very well thought. Imagine Shinji being called Bill or Bob … it would change greatly the way the characters are percepted.
Darn it. When will this EVA movie get into completion? After ten years?
Anyways, good luck to the guys behind this “project of the Century.” Hope it all goes well.
I know I mustn’t be too quick to make bad assumptions for the new live-action adaptation of NGE, but my hopes for the film to be a success were immediately crushed after reading the *cough* RUMOUR *cough* that Hideaki Anno was not going to be directing it. And the fact that they’re changing the names of the characters is utter bull – who gives a freaking damn if it’s not Japanese; you’re practically ruining one of the greatest anime TV shows of all time! They should at least not change Shinji’s name – Shinji is just, well, SHINJI. Ray’s name I’m fine with, considering it’s just the SPELLING they’re changing. But Kate Rose for Asuka?? WTH, MAN. Again, utter bull.
Overall, all faith in this movie for me being a success is lost – I am REALLY sorry to say. It’s just not happening. I don’t see the need either for making a live-action film of NGE when they’ve already released You Are (Not) Alone and are still working on the other three ones.
Next year when this movie comes out, I am going to pretend like it never existed. I repeat, all hope lost.
I wish they wouldn’t change the character’s names. It’ll be weird, because then some people will be calling the characters by their names from the movie, and others will call them their names from the series, and everyone will get confused!!!
Also, they should have kept the name Tokyo 3. It sounds way cooler than New City.
this is based in japan for gods sake. if they really want it to be close to the original stick to the japanese geez…. stupid americanization!!! its too good to change it like that! change is ok but not if it destroys the image that gainax originaly created

ive seen those concept arts that were posted here and ive been wondering why unit 00 and unit 02 has mouths,i watched the original anime but ive never seen 00 and 02 open their mouths and i doubt that they even have one,ive only seen it on unit 01
the new “names” are bullshit…if they are making evangelion THEY SHOULD MAKE EVANGELION not a crappy foreigner stuff….. daniel radcliffe and name it different from shinji or “kate rose” for asuka and “ray” for ayanami …fuck that
in terms of the evangelion pilot names DONT CHANGE THEM. there is no bloody point, they are good as it is now, i mean jesus kate rose wtf asuka langley sorhyu is way better. and i think that this evangelion movie shuld either be a continuation of what end of evangelion left off, but that would be silly but they should make a continuation (not live action) or it should atleast have evangelion unit 4 because it didn’t make any appearence in the show and it would be awesome to be able to see what it could have been capable of doing in the series.
I wish people would just leave NGE alone, I mean the show was a huge success due to its adult themes and brilliant story line. The whole series has stood as one of (if not the) best anime of all time, it would be a shame for anyone to destroy such a monument by altering it to suit America. America can go fuck its self if they can’t site though one film just one where they aren’t in the spot light. I say keep the names, keep the locations, and keep it Japanese! The Japanese made the show and we all love it to death so the least that we can do is to keep it the way it’s meant to be. And in the end who cares if Shinji is named Shinji it’s just a name, yes that raises questions of what’s wrong with changing the name to suit Americans? The answer is that anything but Shinji is not his name, it doesn’t matter what the name is as long as its write!
Frankly, i dont care if MR Potter doesn’t play shinji. while im not a raving Harry potter fan, concidering he performed in Eqqus, he does have the skills required to play shinji. please dont hate me for it.
But, for Gods sake, please dont get Zac Effron to play him. i dont care how many teeny boppers will want to see it because he’s in it- get someone who can act and dosent just sing his lines. NGE is not a musical; though God help me if thats the next stage (no pun intended) after a live action movie. try to imagine that…
And leave the names. When it was translated and dubbed, we got along just fine. why wont we now? Also, no producer would be that stupid to change the names…people would be out for his blood!
i must say that its a good sign their taking so long to do it- at least their trying to do it properly. if it does turn out in all its glory, i smell an oscar nomination…

First of all, changing the names of the characters will piss off every Eva fan. This is supposed to be a live-action film based on an anime, therfore, names, locations, designs, everything should be kept as close to the original as possible. This movie will appeal to the otaku population not just of america but of the whole friggin’ world!! If the yanks fuck it up then they’re going to be killed in my favourtie way, death by legions of enraged otaku!!
Although, seeing as how Anno isn’t having a hand in it and the yank wankers are dealing with it, the movie doesn’t have any hope of being anywhere near as good as the original series. They’re just trying to be one of the cool kids by saying, “What’s that? You’re a fan of Evangelion? Well WE made a movie” If that doesn’t get them bashed nothin will.
And that’s not the end of it. I live in Australia and we have to fight just to get it in the cinemas because of the religious implications in the series.
This world should just say one big FUCK OFF!! to america and let Japan do the movie. At least they should get it right!!

Though I don’t get this common misconsception that japan would get any better, they could go JUST AS WRONG! There have been plenty…PLENTY horrible live action takes on Anime and Manga.
And quite frankly I wouldn’t even trust Anno with a $100 Million dollar project.
Although I am eager to see an american take on this film, we MUST REMEMBER THIS: This isn’t Neon Genesis Evangelion (TV). This is a movie BASED upon the show.
Basically:
-Neon Genesis Evangelion (TV) is Neon Genesis Evangelion (TV)
-Neon Genesis Evangelion the manga is Neon genesis Evangelion the manga. NOT Neon Genesis Evangelion (TV)
-Rebuild Of evangelion is Rebuild of evangelion…Not Neon Genesis Evangelion (TV)
-And THe Live action Evangelion is a live action adaptation, NOT NEON GENESIS EVANGELION (TV)
What I’m saying is that the Live action Evangelion is not the same as the original series, and thus won’t replace it in anyway.
If this movie is made, you still have the original! DON’T pay attention to the live action version if you don’t like it, no one is forcing you. Just because the movie is/might come out doesn’t mean that the original series we all love is going to automatically dissapear.
My god the name change thing would be very stupid. Even if the roles are played by people that are not of japanese decent, the names should not be changed. Honestly in most japanese anime you can hardly tell the deference between English and Japanese characters. The characters name’s should stay the same regardless of who gets casted. The only worry in casting should be whether or not someone is good enough for a role.
